Old World Builders & Traders

Green Collar - Builders is the culmination of 35 years of experience by its president, Philip Law, in the fields of cabinetmaking, reclamation and design. Having lived in England from 1971-1987 as owner of a 15th-century manor house that he converted to a small inn, as well as importing period antiques to the United States, Mr. Law learned the traditional methods of European tradesmen. Upon returning to the U.S. he saw the need for pieces of traditional-looking furniture that were adapted to modern use.

For example, television cabinets, kitchen cabinetry and bathroom furniture that look more like pieces of antique furniture. It was obvious that only on the east coast of the U.S. could enough old wood be found to realize this on a large scale. After years of hand-crafting furniture, interiors, libraries and kitchens, Mr. Law entered the home building market by designing and building an addition to an early period home. After completing that project he decided that he would rather build from scratch, so that quality and accuracy could be better controlled.

Most of our home transformations have been done with simple façades, creating dramatic changes at relatively low cost. Design is the key element. We are currently expanding our workshops for cabinetry, blacksmithing and masonry design to be able to build on a larger scale.
